Integrity New Homes are finalists in the Housing Industry Association Australian GreenSmart Awards 2014 for the display home category for the company’s duplex at Whitetip Street, Chisholm which is part of the HomeLand village located in the Hunter Valley.
Overview
This innovative display home is a duplex containing a three bedroom single storey dwelling with a single garage (Unit 1) and a two storey home with three bedrooms and a double garage (Unit 2). The design demonstrates to prospective new home buyers a creative higher site density approach while presenting a street presence which appears at first glance to be two distinct dwellings.
Overall Environmental Sustainability Performance
In keeping with an 8 star rated home this dwelling scores very highly across the gambit of environmentally sustainable performance with excellent thermal comfort and water, energy and resource efficiency. However, it achieves all these things in an extremely liveable design with very strong contemporary street appeal. Internally the floor plans of both units reduce dead space and maximise an easy flow throughout. The provision of covered outdoor patios are critical lifestyle elements providing direct access to the Kitchen/Living/Meals and perfectly deliver the sort of homes people want to live in. The use of plasterboard feature recesses and niches create decorator areas as well as visual interest and add to liveability (ie who wants to be surrounded by bland flat walls?). The energy efficient gas heaters are functional but their positioning in plasterboard feature walls provides an attractive central focus point to the Living rooms of both units.
